Step into the spotlight with this all-singing, all-dancing, all-acting 3-day holiday workshop! You will be taught an excerpt from an original musical adaptation of “Hansel and Gretel” and will perform it for family and friends at the end of the course.
The instructors for the workshops are some of Singapore’s most experienced Musical Theatre professionals - Babes Conde (vocals), Gani Abdul Karim (dance) and Jeremiah Choy (acting). With their first-hand experience, they will share their skills to inspire a new generation of musical theatre stars. No prior experience needed.
Jeremiah Choy
A trained lawyer, Jeremiah has written and directed numerous shows, both artistic and commercial. In 2002, he directed the critically acclaimed Machine for Theatreworks and won a nomination for Best Director in the 2002 DBS Life! Theatre Awards.
He is the co-founder, member and President of the Association of Singapore Actors since 1999 and presently sits on the National Arts Council's Resource Panel for Theatre.
Babes Conde
A double-degree holder of Music - Piano and Music Education, Babes has worked very closely with Dick Lee in productions like Beauty World, Fried Rice Paradise, Sing to the Dawn and Forbidden City in various capacities as Musical Director, Arranger, Choral Mistress and Pianist. As a Composer, she has written for Teenage Textbook, My Lonely Tarts, 24 Hours, and godeatgod for which she received Honorable Mention in the DBS Life! Theatre Awards 2003.
In 1995, her composition A Place Called Home was translated into Mi Casa and was shortlisted in the Children’s Festival Vecchino D’ Oro, which was performed in Italy. She has worked with Fann Wong and Kit Chan as their vocal coach for their Indoor Stadium concerts. She was the vocal coach for Singapore Idol in 2004 and 2006, and Live The Dream in 2007.
Gani Abdul Karim
A triple-threat Singaporean performer, as well as a highly sort after choreographer and instructor, Gani has a long string of stage experiences locally and abroad, and awards under his belt. He has worked with renowned artistes like Glen Goei, Najip Ali, Lea Salonga, Jacintha and Dick Lee to name a few.
He has appeared in many productions such as the original cast of Beauty World, Mortal Sins and Broken Birds: An Epic Longing. He took the role of the dynamic retainer in Lear, an intercultural production which toured Asia and Europe. Immediately after, he acted in Haunted where his performance received outstanding reviews. He then played the role of “Erica” in Comrade Mayor (2001). He has choreographed various local plays which incorporate movement and dance such as Teater Ekamatra’s Impenjaramen (S'pore Arts Fest '05), played multiple roles in Wild Rice’s 2nd Link, and was lead performer / choreographer for the Opening Ceremony of the IOC.
