What is Argentine Tango?

The original tango danced in the streets of Buenos Aires. This is the forefather of the ballroom tango, and is characterised by an intimate stance -- the abrazo or embrace -- instead of the cocked heads or rose-between-the-teeth typified in Hollywood movies.

Although ballroom tango evolved from the Argentine Tango, both styles have diverged significantly, with Argentine Tango still emphasizing the dance as a conversation between the partners, rather than choreography.

Attire: Dress comfortably.
Footwear: Court shoes with ankle straps that secure the shoe to your feet. Sneakers or track shoes. No slippers or sandals

Tango I
The Beginner level is a progressive course introducing Tango from scratch and covers 8 basic steps: salida, three types of ochos, sandwich, three types of turns / sacadas. It prepares the beginner for social dancing, and is a prerequisite for workshops by foreign teachers, held every few months.
